On January 10, 2025, at around 10:50 p.m. EST, a intoxicated man drove a rented 2018 Ford Expedition into a Rolls Royce Cullinan, the vehicle of Senate Majority Leader Antone Kays on Pulmettan Expressway in Miami, Florida, killing them both. The drivers were killed, in addition with 2 other cars passing by, as the Rolls Royce ricocheted violently off a barrier into 2 upcoming cars.
The assailant, Thomas Ryan Woodson, was an American-born resident of Montgomery, Alabama. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) determined that Woodson was heavily frustrated with Leader Kays and hated him "with a passion" according to cellphone records. It was investigated as an assassination.
