==== Current status ==== As of {{CURRENTYEAR}}, the GOP holds majorities in the [[United States House of Representatives|U.S. House of Representatives]] and [[U.S. Senate]]. It also holds 27 [[List of United States governors|state governorships]], 28 [[List of United States state legislatures|state legislatures]], and 23 state [[government trifecta]]s. Six of the nine current [[U.S. Supreme Court]] justices were appointed by Republican presidents. There have been 19 Republican presidents, the most from any one political party, the most recent being [[Donald Trump]], who served as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021.
