===Oath of Allegiance and Official Oath=== {{main|Oath of Allegiance (United Kingdom)}} A general Oath of Allegiance and Official Oath, are set out in the [[Promissory Oaths Act 1868]] are required to be taken by various office-holders. Members of the House of Commons or of the House of Lords are required to take the oath of allegiance in the House at the beginning of a new Parliament, as well as after a [[Demise of the Crown]]. Section 84 of the [[Scotland Act 1998]] requires [[Member of the Scottish Parliament|members of the Scottish Parliament]] to take the Oath of Allegiance at a meeting of the [[Scottish Parliament|Parliament]]. Members of the Scottish Government and junior Scottish Ministers are additionally required to take the Official Oath. Section 20 of the [[Government of Wales Act 1998]] requires [[Member of the National Assembly for Wales|members of the National Assembly for Wales]] to take the oath of allegiance.
